About Me
I’m never sure what to say when people ask where I’m from. Born in Massachusetts, I spent my teenage years in California, then college in Rhode Island, then twenties in Italy and San Francisco, then early thirties in St.Kitts . . . before finally landing in Portland, Oregon in 2009.
I have been:
A teacher by accident (long story that involves a phone booth outside a Barcelona discotheque)
A curriculum manager (when I got burnt out on teaching)
A head teacher of an international school on St. Kitts (think tiny Caribbean island)
A design manager of professional learning for teachers and administrators
Now, I currently help other patients navigate the challenges of living with persistent post-concussive symptoms and advocate for brain injury survivors whenever I can.
I graduated from Brown University with a B.A. in Psychology and then earned a Master’s in Education from the University of California, Berkeley. I was drawn back to writing after my life-changing concussion and completed the Attic Atheneum Master Writing Program in 2021. Learn more about my writing and speaking.
Whenever I can, I force my teenage daughter to create dance videos with me, and my husband and I like sitting in rivers, cold water rushing over our feet while we gaze up into the sky.
